Day 16: Affirm

Ahhhhh affirming. What a beautiful and wholesome concept.

CONCEPT being the keyword here.

Our culture today seems to embrace affirming one another over social media or text, but when do we ever affirm one another face-to-face?

In age of "YAS QUEEN"'s and "YOU ARE SO GORGEOUS ♥" 's and "HAWT"'s, we neglect to look another person in the eyes and say to them "You are appreciated. You are valued. You are loved. You are cherished. You are beautiful. You are important."

We neglect the opportunity to affirm others on their talents and abilities.

We find ourselves awaiting the perfect number of likes on our Instagram post, but once we hit that 100 we remain unfulfilled and empty.

What if another person came up to you and said "You are so talented and blessed."? Wouldn't that make us feel much more whole than a little red heart being double tapped?

Why is it that we find ourselves uncomfortable when affirming others or when being affirmed?

It's because our culture is so afraid to address one another in an authentic way, that when we are presented with authenticity we try to hide from it.

We need to reverse this belief that authentic affirmation starts online, and move in the direction of appreciating one other through connecting face-to-face.

I want to challenge myself, and you, to affirm others authentically and in a way that will make them feel loved and appreciated.

In order to cultivate a culture of love we must work to affirm one another.
