Hey you- reading this right now- yes you-
your tongue has POWER.
Do not let anyone ever convince you that your words are not of influence.
Your words are POWER.
In today's day and age we often put one another down with our words.
We speak in negativity.
We speak in hate.
We speak in uneducated words of slander.
We speak in lies.
"But it's just a joke."
Guess what- it's probably not funny. It's probably something incredibly hurtful, and you have just increased the negativity and the hurt in the world around us.
That person you made the joke about?
Consider their heart.
"But everyone says these words."
Why do you desire so deeply to be a part of "everyone"? I believe that we are called to be the difference in the world. We are called to speak life and truth in an area where there is constant darkness and lies. I believe every single human is capable of being the difference, no matter what their predisposition to an optimistic mindset is. YOU, reading this, have the power to make a difference with your words by being the one person who isn't "everyone."
"But I don't care what you think of me, I'll say what I want."
Why is it that we somehow convince ourselves that it's okay to say whatever hurtful and evil things we desire, because we believe it makes us appear strong? By speaking words of intensity rooted in hatred, we are opening ourselves up to desolation. By speaking words of darkness we are saying "yes" to a shroud of darkness over our own lives.
I don't care if you are a strong Christian who is rooted in faith, or if you have no beliefs at all- Your words have power.
You have the choice to use your words to cultivate a world of kindness and love, or to add your lukewarm breath to the smoke of hatred that permeates over our world, and covers our hearts in despair.
Turn to yourself today and genuinely ask whether you are adding to the darkness or if you can grow in spreading the light.
Today I turn to myself acknowledge that I often fall, that I often contribute to hurtful speech, and I say- no more.
Today I make the decision to speak goodness
To speak truth.
To speak joy.
To speak life.
To speak light.
To speak kindness.
To speak love.
Today I am challenging you to do the same.
With Love Always,
Bailey
